To V-SYNC or Not To V-SYNC

With our airframe we have found that V-SYNC has a big hit on FPS as well as other issues. (See your Airframe 2023)

First let’s start by saying our goal for FPS is 50 or better. Why? Well in some instance you may experience a massive drop in FPS, and having an already high rate will allow almost a 50% drop and still have a smooth display and flight experience.

We estimate that V-SYNC can effect FPS by 10 FPS or more. So having it disable in some situations maybe beneficial for your flight. Below are a few of the items we noticed when tweaking V-SYNC:

V-SYNC off : tight turn display might get choppy or have a skipping effect
V-SYNC on : tight turn display smooth and flows very nice and takes almost a 50% FPS rate.

V-SYNC Fixes

V-SYNC on : enable Video Card Drivers Refresh Rate or Optimizaaton, puts back FPS back to original hight rate.

Other Display Issue

V-SYNC does not affect ghosting. Ghosting or shadow ripples is related to ANTI-ALIASING, you can remove the issue by setting up the alternate type. Note that this also strongly affects FPS. Ghosting is really on noticeable in external view take-offs where wheels and plane shadows ghost(shadow ripple). It can also be seen in cockpit with air to ground shadow or external air traffic.
